About

Sussan Giallombardo, born in Buffalo New York. Moved to NYC in the 80s and graduated from Parsons School of Design. She lived and worked as a graphic designer and artist in Brooklyn for most of her adult life. In 2012 Giallombardo moved back Buffalo with her daughter and cat where she is currently practicing her art and teaching at Starlight studio and gallery.

My work is based on observations from my environment, nature and architectural forms. My painting process begins by eliminating all the detail from a complex image. I draw small sketches and develop relationships between the lines and shapes. There are infinite possibilities using repetition of simple lines and geometric forms.

After the composition is selected, I make small gouache paintings exploring the limitations of a minimal color pallet. The method for each painting is the same: draw, make color study, use a ruler to translate the image to canvas.

I paint layers of oil paint until the paint develops a presence of its own.

The contrast between the expressive nature of paint and the minimal abstract shapes is what I want to explore.
